Throughout last year, the abrupt shift to remote work opened up new avenues for hackers. As a result, cybersecurity became a priority for the majority of organizations.
FREMONT, CA: The goal of cybersecurity is to safeguard computers, networks, devices, and programs from any cyberattack. The importance of cybersecurity is rising. Society is much more technologically dependent than it has ever been. People put data leaks online that could result in identity theft in public, making these leaks publicly available. Compassionate information, such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, and bank account information, is now stored in various cloud storage services. The following section contains some basic cybersecurity practices for building a more robust cybersecurity ecosystem within any organization.

Adopting a cybersecurity plan does not require starting from scratch. IT security experts recommend following the NIST guidelines in its Cybersecurity Framework. Organizations should continuously perform five primary functions:
Educating staff on cybersecurity
Most cybersecurity discussions should occur before an employee's first day on the job. For example, companies schedule regular educational sessions with remote employees to learn about the business’s unique cyber-risks. Employees' education should not only focus on securing their home networks and devices alone. It's also critical to discuss how cybersecurity is everyone's responsibility, not just IT or management. Employees who do not have access to sensitive information may not know that they could be hacked or exploited.
Secure Device usage
While most employees are provided with laptops, some prefer to use their own for various reasons, including convenience or quality. However, this can be a problem if employees' devices lack additional protections such as antivirus software and firewalls. To avoid this hazard, companies implement a default set of cybersecurity policies that enhance their customers' devices' security posture. These policies include automated security patching, full disc encryption, automated screen lock, and an enabled firewall.
Multi-Factor Authentication Implement
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) should always be used as a cybersecurity best practice to make it more difficult for hackers to access sensitive information. MFA requires an additional factor, such as a fingerprint or security code, for hackers to gain access to the system. For instance, when users enter their usernames and passwords, each smartphone receives a unique code. Before access can be granted, that code must be entered into the system.
